Between vibrant changing leaves, temperatures dipping lower by the day, and the holiday season approaching, it is the perfect time of year to take advantage of the great outdoors during your fitness routine! Before you hit the open road, be sure to stock up on the right cold weather essentials.

  • Your base layer should be a sweat-wicking, dri-fit material with short or long sleeves, depending on the temperature. Steer clear of cotton materials against your skin, as they tend to soak up sweat, cling to your body, and will chill you if you remove your outer layers.
  • Add a fleece or wool outer jacket or vest above your base later. This will help you to stay warm at the start of your workout before your blood gets pumping.
  • Invest in a pair of thermal running tights. They will move with your body, keep your legs warm, and give you a place to store your keys or cards while moving.
  • Don’t forget to keep your ears, hands, neck, and face covered as you cut through the cold! A pair of fleece gloves will keep your pointers toasty, and many have fingertip technology that won’t prevent you from using your phone while wearing them. I knit hat, headband, or neck gaiter can protect your upper body from experiencing numbness during your quick moves.
  • As for your socks, opt for a light microfiber wool pair that will keep your toes warm without being too bulky.
