Types of Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes

Auto-immune disease that occurs when the body's immune system attacks its own cells. Immune cells destroy the insulin making cells of the pancreas. No way to prevent this type of diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes

This type typically has a genetic link and runs in families. It can be prevented by watching what you eat, exercising, and your weight.

Gestational Diabetes

This type of diabetes is diagnosed in pregnancy. It's caused by the hormonal changes and extra weight put on in pregnancy. They are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes after pregnancy.
