20 Anti-Aging Foods

Exercise and a healthy diet are the best (non-surgical) ways to keep you looking younger. But certain foods contain qualities that will improve your skin, boost your energy, and even fight of disease. Add these options to your diet and experience their multiple benefits.

1. Blueberries:  Blueberries are high in fiber, loaded with vitamins and minerals, and a great source of antioxidants that may help protect the brain and skin

2.Wild Salmon: Wild Salmon is full of Omega-3 fats that can protect the skin, brain, eyes, heart and joints.

3. Pistachios: These nuts are very high in nutrition and will also help you with portion control. According to a study published in the journal Appetite, subjects consumed 41 percent fewer calories when in-shell nuts are offered compared to those already shelled.

4. Whey Protein: As we age, muscle mass begins to decline at around 1 percent per year. To prevent this, combine strength training with whey protein isolate. It is great in smoothies or mixed with fruit.

5. Greek Yogurt: This yogurt has double the protein and half the sugar of regular yogurt. Look for a Greek yogurt that has probiotics, special cultures that are great for gut health. Greek yogurt also has less lactose than regular yogurt which makes it easier on your digestion system.

6. Coffee: As long as you are not loading your coffee with cream and sugar, coffee has many health benefits. It may lower the risk for type-2 diabetes and Parkinson’s disease. Some data suggests that coffee drinkers have less of a change of dying from heart disease.

7. Barramundi: A new fish on many menus- Barramundi has half the calories of salmon with the same amount of omega-3 fatty acids.

8. Oats: Oats are an easy way to consume the amount of fiber our bodies need. The fiber in oats will fill you up so it may reduce the risk of weight gain.

9. Red Wine: You don’t have to tell me twice! Red wine contains a potent antioxidant called resveratol. High amounts of resveratol may prevent cell death in heart and brain.

10. Spinach: Spinach is full of nutrients and can be easily added to almost every meal. It is rich in lutein, which has been shown to have anti-aging properties.

11. Corn: An easy to find and delicious vegetable. One study showed that a fiber found in corn might prevent the growth of cancer.

12. Whole Grains: Whole grains prevent cholesterol build up in your arteries. Make sure you are choosing whole grain carbohydrate options over the white varieties.

13. Cinnamon:  Research shows that this powerful antioxidant may decrease the post-meal insulin spike. And the more controlled the spike, the less likely you are to store body fat. Sprinkle some cinnamon on your favorite foods to help reduce your waist line.

14. Dark Chocolate: Happy day! Chocolate is healthy! Research has shown that dark chocolate contains heart health properties. Eating 1 ounce of dark chocolate per day has been associated with lower bad cholesterol levels.

15. Curcumin: This is the spice that give curry it’s yellow color. Researchers have found that it may have cancer destroying abilities. Add 1-2 tablespoons to meat, vegetables, or rice.

16. Sweet Potatoes: Sweet potatoes contain lycopene, which protects your skin from UV damage. They are also loaded with Vitamin C, which produces collagen for healthier skin.

17. Green Tea: Green tea may help you look younger. Chinese researches have found that people who drank 3 or more cups of green tea per day slowed down the aging process.

18. Watermelon: This delicious fruit is loaded with lycopene and beta-carotene which both help protect and repair your skin from sun damage.

19. Hemp: Like salmon, hemp is a strong source of omega-3s. Hemp seeds and oils are a natural moisturizer, which helps your skin retain moisture and counteract the effects of aging. Eat the seeds raw, or add the oil to your favorite smoothie

20. Rainbow Trout:  Your body needs healthy fats because they protect your cells and promote longevity. Trout is great because it’s high in EPA—a fatty acid that fights cortisol (the stress hormone).
