Clean Hands, Healthy Holidays!
Posted on: December 14, 2017Categories: LiveWell 24/7It’s Flu season again, and one of the easiest ways to prevent the spread of germs is by washing your hands. Clean hands can stop the spread of illnesses throughout an entire community, from your home and workplace to childcare facilities and hospitals. This week is National Hand-washing Awareness Week, so help yourself and others stay healthy by washing your hands often, especially during these key times when germs can easily spread:
- Food Prep: Before, during, and after food preparation
- Eating: Before any meal
- Caring for Others: Before and after caring for a sick person
- Treating a Wound: Before and after cleaning a cut or wound
- In the Bathroom: After using the bathroom
- Sneezing: After sneezing, coughing, or blowing your nose.
- Animals: After playing with or feeding an animal, or cleaning up its waste
Proper Hand-Washing Technique:
- Wet your hands with running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
- Rub hands together to create lather. Be sure to rub the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
- Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Try humming the alphabet or birthday song twice as a timer!
- Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
- Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.
