Creative Ways to Squeeze More Steps Into Your Weekdays
Posted on: September 29, 2017Categories: LiveWell 24/7We all know exercise is beneficial for us, but many people who are trying to lose weight believe that it takes fancy equipment or expensive gym memberships to make it happen. However, walking has been shown to aid in weight loss and decrease risk of heart disease and high blood pressure; it can also be done anywhere, anytime, and is free! Take a step in the right direction (no pun intended!) by adding 300-500 steps each day until you reach at least 10,000. Crunched for time? This list of creative ways to sneak more steps into your weekday will help you add steps to your daily routine. Before you know it, obtaining 10,000 steps a day will be a walk in the park!
- Make an extra lap around the perimeter of the grocery store when shopping.
- Use the restroom one floor up (or down) at the office instead of the one right down the hall.
- Hide the remote of the TV so you have to get up to change the channel of your TV. Better yet, turn off the TV.
- Instead of fighting other drivers for that single open spot near the door, do your blood pressure a favor and park several rows away.
- Walk around the block while your kid is taking dance class/playing soccer/whatever.
- Get off the bus or subway one stop early.
- March in place while brushing your teeth (go ahead and shut the door first if you’d like).
- Walk over to your coworkers desk instead of emailing her.
- Make it a nightly habit to go on a stroll with the family.
- Early for an appointment? Walk around the block instead of adding to your interminable time in the waiting room.
- Headed to the mall? Stroll the length of it once before you start buying-and scout the sales while you’re at it.
- Walk your child to school instead of waiting in the endless carpool line.
