The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) allows certain individuals to continue their group health coverage after they leave their place of employment.  This law specifically allows for continuation of coverage for employees and their dependents when they would otherwise loss their coverage for certain reasons.  COBRA applies to companies that employ 20 or more employees on a typical business day and the law covers medical dental, vision, FSA, and HRAs and then disease specific policies.  These plans offered under COBRA must also be identical to that available to a similarly situated employee.  Please see the compliance overview for a complete chart of what it does cover does not cover.
