The weather is getting warmer, the days are getting longer, kids in school are entering Summer Break, and because it is National Physical Fitness And Sports Month, it is the perfect time to make a four-week commitment to yourself and/or your family to get active. Here are some ways that you can incorporate activity time into family time:
- Host Backyard Games: make and run an obstacle course, play a game of soccer, Frisbee, or football, create and complete a scavenger hunt.
- Lend a Hand: help out a neighbor or grandparent with yard work or chores, participate in a run/walk for charity, help pick up trash along trails, volunteer at a meal center, or join a community building project such as Habitat for Humanity.
- Roll With Rainy Days: Play charades, musical chairs, hide-and-go-seek, build a fort, or use the time to do indoor chores.
- Get Adventurous: Scale a rock climbing wall at a climbing gym, take a camping trip, play laser tag, go white-water rafting, ride bikes the length of a rail-trail, visit a national park or science museum, or drive to a new city and take a walking tour.
- Make A Splash: host a water balloon baseball game, run through the sprinklers, go to the beach and jump over waves, paddle in a lake with canoes or kayaks, try paddle boarding or a water balloon fight.
