Distracted driving is a very dangerous, and sometimes fatal, epidemic on America’s roadways. In fact, in 2013, 3,154 people were killed in distracted driving accidents. The U.S. Department of Transportation is leading the effort to end cell phone use and texting behind the wheel. Over the past few years, awareness seminars have been given, cell phone use was banned for commercial drivers, and many states have begun to adopt laws that restrict cell phone use on the road. Instead of becoming a statistic, save your phone calls and text messages for later. Focus your attention on the road and stay aware. In addition to being a safe driver, be a safe passenger and speak up when your friends or family are using a phone behind the wheel too. While cell phones are a big distraction when you’re driving, they are not the only ones. Save the food and make-up for later as well.
