SC Tax Free Weekend- What is Covered?

During this three day period, shoppers will be able to save up to 8% on a wide range of items such as back to school supplies and most clothing. Shoppers in South Carolina typically save an estimated $3 million according to the Department of Revenue. Many stores will be having great deals and may even have extended their hours for the weekend. This is a great opportunity to purchase any items for school such as laptops and dorm supplies. Here is a brief list of things that are covered and not covered by tax free weekend. Items Covered by Tax Free Weekend
- Most clothing, clothing accessories and footwear
- School supplies such as writing utensils, paper, binders, notebooks, book bags and calculators
- Computers, laptops, printers, printer supplies and software
- Bedding including blankets, bedspreads, linens, sheet sets, comforter sets, pillows and pillowcases
- Bathroom supplies including bath towels, shower curtains, bath mats and rugs
Items Not Covered by Tax Free Weekend
- Jewelry, cosmetics, eyewear
- Briefcases, wallets, and watches
- Clothing or footwear rentals
- Cell phones, smart phones, or hand-held devices
- Any items placed on layaway
