In the heat of the summer, it is important to stay hydrated at all times. Water is an essential part of the human body, as it makes up two-thirds of it! Once water is eliminated from the body, it is important to rehydrate in order for normal functioning to continue.

Mild dehydration can be easily cured, however, severe dehydration may be life-threatening and must be immediately addressed. Here are a few ways to recognize whether or not you need to be replenishing your body!

Mild Dehydration:

  • Dry mouth
  • Dry skin
  • Low energy level
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Dizziness
  • Minimal or concentrated urine
  • Muscle cramps

Severe Dehydration:

  • Extreme thirst
  • Irritability and/or confusion
  • Dry skin
  • Skin that doesn’t bounce back when pinched
  • Low blood pressure
  • Rapid heartbeat and breathing
  • Fever
  • Little or no urination

Listen to your body and be sure to carry a bottle of water with you when performing any physical activity especially during these hot summer days!
